A-bombed Chinaberry Tree

Monument name

Overview: What is it?

This is a tree that survived the atomic bombing, approximately 1,370 meters from the hypocenter, by sprouting again from its scorched trunk. As a symbol of vitality and recovery, it was initially located in the garden of the former Communications Hospital (now Hiroshima Hakushima Hospital) but has now been relocated to the Peace Memorial Park, where it conveys a message of peace.

The Story & Significance

Currently, three trees are planted as of 2025, one of which is a second-generation tree grown from the seed of an atomic-bombed Chinese parasol tree.
