Overview: What is it?
It was constructed by the nation to express condolences for the atomic bomb victims and to pray for lasting peace, while also aiming to deepen the understanding of the atomic catastrophe among people worldwide and to pass on the experience of the bombing to future generations.
The Story & Significance
The 8:15 Monument features a monument marking the exact time of the atomic bomb blast, 8:15, placed in the center of the ground level. Surrounding this central monument are water dedicated to the victims who died yearning for water, and relics such as atomic-bombed roof tiles excavated from the site during the construction work.
